For many years, the most requested makeup application has been, and continues to be, the smokey eye.
While it started years ago with either shades of brown, or shades in the grey family, it certainly has gotten more creative with colors.
One can never have too many smokey eye palettes, so I wanted to share with you some of the new ones that I've seen in the past few months. Although I make my own for my professional needs (either with Inglot, MAC or Make Up Forever shadows), I realize that for the general consumer, buying an existing palette is probably the easiest and most economical way to go.
Of course there are many, many additional palettes to choose from, but these are just a few to consider.
YSL Couture Palettes
Each one of Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Couture eyeshadow palettes is named after the biggest moments of Saint Laurent's fashion legacy. This 'Avant Garde' compact has five bold, crease-resistant satin shadows - ranging from dark-gray to soft beige - that wear up to 12 hours. Follow the guide on the back of the elegant gold packaging to customize the perfect smoky eye.
Urban Decay Naked
These have been some of the most popular eye palettes over the last seven years, thanks to the smooth, buttery formulas that all but glide across your eyelids. But it's the range of shades that really make them cult classics.
The standard Naked palettes usually run just over $50, but you can often find them on sale at Ulta and other similar types of stores.
Aren't these gorgeous to look at?
I believe these come in seven different palettes, but the one here is called "Modernist." The shades here are very flattering to most all complexions.
You'll start with the matte shadows as a base, and then use the metallics to highlight and define. This palette includes shadows that have a fine, creamy consistency. Shadows are highly pigmented and only a small amount is needed. Apply shimmery shades wet for a more dramatic look. They are free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
Smith & Cult
Smith & Cult's debut 'Soft Shock' palette can be used to build a myriad of eye effects. This luxe mirrored compact features a quartet of silver, pastel-pink, gold and black shimmery shadows to define and illuminate your eyes.
While it comes with a double-ended sponge to apply, I strongly suggest you use a few specialty brushes to create the best effect. I've covered a lot of great brushes for this in past newsletters, but please email or call me if you want some suggestions.
